SCOOOOTER!!!

a rainy night in paris above. view from my living room window. luckily, it's only rained at night while i've been here. i need to buy an umbrella!!!

so today, dimanche, i finally got to see my long lost friend mylene (moo!!!)!!! we met for brunch in her neighborhood with her friends. there were musicians and dancers in the street!
how charming!
moi et arnaud at brunch. my new french friend.
massimo and mylene. ** look moo! you made it in to the blog!!! ;-)
awesome action shot of me and moo's hair.
i love scooter rides!!! more! more! more!!! mylene is a great tour guide! and so cute too!!!
hello scooter babe! haha
here are a few pix from the back of the scooter. we went all over mylene's neighborhood and also st. germain. so i got to see a lot without having to walk everywhere. oh, and without getting lost, which is kinda my thing...
notre dame! haven't visited there yet, so this is the first i've seen of it!
rive gauche vendors. along the seine.
fleur de glace! omgosh the best sorbet ever! mango and cherry. it was totally worth waiting in line for!!! and how cute does the little flower look? super-cute, i know.
so then mylene and i took our ice creams to sit at a sidewalk cafe and had cafe and evian. and what do you know, an accordion player. i mean, shit, can it get any more french than this??? i think not... it was tres cute and charming. a perfect stereotype come to life.
after that, moo and i hung out at her place bc we were tired! our sugar rush from 2 ice creams had gone and we were done... but what an excellent day it was!!!

short and sweet today. i am tired!

Went walking again today. Took the train to the chatelet stop like i did before and i tried to follow the signs to centre pompidou... that was unsuccessful. i somehow ended up lost in a very large mall (forum des Halles) which doesn't sound nearly as nice as it should!!! i did take a little shopping break in h&m bc it reminded me of home. and i needed a coin purse, which i didn't find, but bought a cute coat instead. once i finally made it out (merci mon dieu!!) i made it back to the bridge i had crossed the day before. i decided to walk down the rive droit today, just to try something different.
*loved this side of the river bc of all the cute flower and pet shops. like walking in a whimsical, overgrown garden in the middle of the street!*
turns out if you just keep walking down the right bank, you run right in to the louvre! who knew? (i have yet to figure out where anything is, or where i am most of the time.) this is my arty b&w shot of one of the outer buildings.
this is my pensive, moody pic. i was having all sorts of philosophical and artistic thoughts whilst sitting in that plaza. can't you tell???
this little bebe was just the cutest thing ever. playing with a ball and grand-mere and giggling. so sweet. i wish the louvre were my playground...
had to put this shot in. it was a nice day, just a lil cloudy. perfect for photos. this is looking out towards the gardens.
this is proof that i was there and i didn't just borrow someone else's photos. it is kinda hard to take tourist pix when you are touring by yourself!!! makes for some interesting compositions though...
this is a statue in the gardens in front of the louvre. i just liked it bc of the bird perched atop. :)
richard serra sculpture at front gates. i was so impressed with myself that i remembered something from art school!!! i mean, there is not really anything else like serra, so it should be easy to remember, but still. impressive, i think.
*for colleen* my early dinner that i purchased just outside. yep i put ketchup on my french hot dog. and some dijon moutard! i put a lil too much of that on though... whoa spicy. it was delicious. i remember when i came with my fam when i was younger and my bro and i were not impressed with french hot dogs, but this was delish. i also had an "italian ice" that was really a cherry slushie.
this was my view from where i sat on a wall out side the louvre garden to eat my supper. not bad eh?
then i walked across a bridge and look what i saw!!! it's a HYBRID!!! awesome!!!
(yes, i am a big green hippie nerd)
then i crossed back over on the prettiest bridge ever, pont Alexandre III. i mean, it was pretty cool, for a bridge. i wish all lamp posts looked like this...
this is just a cool "the sun shines bright on paris" kind of pic that i took while crossing the bridge. and the cute lil smart car.
um, i forget what building this was... le petit palais? or it was across the street from the petit palais, yes. idk. i just thought it was a cool building. i think we should have built cooler building in america...
l'arc de triomphe and the champs elysees. pretty cool if you have a ton of loot to spend...

like here, which will be my new mecca once i marry my hott, rich, french husband...
not that h&m isn't totally awesome. oh and zara has this GORGEOUS coat that i want SOOO bad, but i resisted. it's 100 euro! but it is amazing...
this girl was tres chic. very simple, but she looked awesome. and i like the composition of this pic... have to throw in some art school jargon...
moi avec l'arc du triomphe. it was too big to fit in... that is the very asian hello kitty headband i bought at h&m. (they have tons of hello kitty stuff there!!! so weird but awesome!)
then i think i walked down the dodgier side of champs, just lookin at all the motorbike stores *want one!* until i found a metro station. on my way home, i stopped at a proper supermarche' instead of the mini-mart of my first night and got a few more things. it's funny though, how small the stores are. like, the whole store could fit into the cheese section at marsh or jewel... seriously...

um, that may not be all, but the end.

***oh mum, i did the dishes today! :-p

day 2

so here's day two:
i got a bit of a late start (slept til 2!!!) but then i got cleaned up and dressed, found a map book and went out exploring. i walked all the way over to cemetiere pere lachaise and then decided to buy a metro pass and make my way towards the center of the city.

metro tunnel:
i saw this very chic lady on the street when i got off the train. i love that she is wearing heels and is quite neutral, but with a pop of color with her scarff. not quite sure where i was at the time. i just guessed at the train stops... very adventurous.
was not nearly as impressed with this particular look... mesh tank and saggy jeans? i think not...
i just kept walking and walking and walking and eventually i ran in to the seine. the weather is GORGEOUS here. a lil toasty, but beautiful and sunny.
Rive Gauche:
as i was walking i noticed this little side walkway which was soooo cute and cobblestone! it had little restaurants and a jewelry shop.
this is luxembourg gardens, which i also stumbled upon completely by accident. it was very pretty and cute. they have chairs all throughout and everyone just sits around chatting and sunning. a french man hit on me here. he was trying to be suave about it, but i noticed him when i was sitting down and then he followed me when i was walking away. he asked me for the time... original, n'est pas? he was nice though, and not creepy.
cool statue in luxembourg gardens:
so then i walked some more (do you see a theme here? i have huge blisters on my feet!) i passed a gap and a levis store. i wonder why everybody wants to dress like americans? and then alas, i was hungry and tired and i saw the golden arches sign up ahead. so i stopped for dinner. the funny thing is not that i had mcdonald's for dinner in paris, it's that i don't even eat mcdonald's at home in the states! they do serve evian though and they have an excellent selection of gourmet desserts. the apple was from a previous stop along my walk.
the view from my window seat, however, was much nicer than at home. i want to marry the guy who has the apartment with the wraparound balcony on top. he was attractive... ;-)
so after dinner i walked around some more until i found a train station to go home. i got a little confused and ended up taking 3 trains instead of two, but for my first day on public transportation, i think i did pretty good! then this guy was talking to me in french and i kept telling him i didn't understand what he was saying (i understood some, but i didn't want to talk to him...) but he kept following me and talking to me! ugh! it was sooooo annoying! he finally got my point and left, but i was about to get violent! then i came home, watched a movie and went to bed.

my first day in paris

so! i am here in paris!!! it's kinda crazy really... what was i thinking coming here all by myself??? it's pretty awesome still, but i would like it even better if i had a friend or family here to enjoy it with me. so i'll post some pix and tell you all how it's been so far...

so i flew aer lingus. not too shabby. the first flight was ok cuz we each had our own tvs with movies, tv shows, music, etc. which was pretty nice. i watched "charlie bartlett" and "mad money" (cuz i figured i'd never actually pay money to see that movie!). i couldn't sleep very well even though i had two seats, but yeah. then i had a layover in dublin which lasted FOREVER. and dublin is NOT a cute airport either... i was sooooooooo tired too!!! and then our plane was late bc of technical difficulties, so they had to have a test flight before we could leave for paris. lucky for me, i met this nice french lady who gave me advice and also helped me find my way once i arrived at the paris airport.

cool moving walkway tunnels at charles de gaulle airport. oh yeah, i forgot to mention that they had claire's accessories stores in both dublin and paris airports!!! claire's??? so random.

so then i took the RER (train) to gare du nord in paris. now, mind you, i did not pack light... i don't know how apparently, bc in my mind i barely brought anything!!! yet i had 3 suitcases, a carry-on bag and a lil mini-bag. yep. that was me packing light... so i was carrying all my luggage and was trying to get out to the taxis, yet every sign i followed led me somewhere else!!! i was dying at this point bc i was sooooo tired!!! finally i made my way outside and found a taxi (godsend!). i collapsed in the back seat and made it to my apartment safe and sound. another lucky-for-me was the apt caretaker helped me up the stairs with my ridiculously heavy bags. we are on the 2nd floor french-style, which is really the third. and our stairs are SLANTED. it's tough to navigate with no luggage, but with? i thought i was going to fall and the apt man was going to collapse and have a heart attack!

so i settled in a bit and then went out in search of food. probably shouldn't have left the house without a map though, cuz i got a bit lost. luckily i asked a lady who spoke very good english how to get back to my street and i got back safe and sound. i stopped at a little middle-eastern place for some meat and cheese pies and some hummus. then i went to a little mini-mart for some basics. the little man was nice and he even gave me an apricot free as a present, he said.

my first grocery trip
my free fruit
my "american sandwich" bread and the skippy i imported for sandwiches. i gotta have my pb!

more pix of my cute apt.

so yeah, then i ate and went to bed and slept forever. the end.
