do-it-yourself FENDI?

The Italian fashion house Fendi has come up with a new design concept for their iconic Baguette bag.
Now, you can have your Fendi Baguette, where “your” means unique and really representing your own style. How is it possible?

With the new Fendi limited edition called Baguette Mezzo Punto.

“Mezzo punto” is the Italian for “half stitch”, so you have to bring this canvas bag, a needle and all your fantasy! There are in Fendi box also diagrams and illustrations help beginning stitchers.

Fendi Baguette Mezzo Punto was presented at Design Miami/Art Basel in December.

”Fendi is a creativity factory that supports talent without boundaries. In these challenging times in which the world is changing rapidly, we wanted to exalt pure creativity by putting attention on traditional materials and low technology techniques. We wanted to rediscover the power and the beauty of ‘Fatto a Mano’ (Hand-Craft),” Fendi Accesories Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi said.
“Fendi strongly believes that creativity and the flow of ideas are the Fuel for the Future. Forever.”

ANNA HOVET IS KILLIN IT!!!!

one of my favorite girls, miss anna hovet, has been making moves and shaking up the midwest with her sportswear line. had she not been laid off last december, the anna hovet collection might not be here today. luckily, hard work and perseverance has turned anna into a successful business owner at just 24 years old!

her line includes separates such as hoodies, leggings and dresses. all of the styles are unique twists on basics and some pieces are reversible too! she now sells in chicago, milwaukee and grand forks, nd (her hometown). she's planning on going coastal, sales-wise, while remaining a chicago-based designer. she also sells her line on her site: www.annahovet.com check it out!

i'm so proud of her!

Controversial Billboard Defaced
from ONE news/NZPA
http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/controversial-billboard-defaced-3313207

A church billboard showing Joseph and Mary in bed has been defaced, within four hours of going up.
On the billboard Mary and Joseph are in bed with Joseph looking down in a dejected manner and Mary looking disappointed.
The caption reads: "Poor Joseph. God is a hard act to follow."
The billboard, at St Matthew-in-the-City Church in Auckland, was almost entirely painted over by a man standing on his car on Thursday afternoon. A ONE News camera caught him in the act .
The church says the billboard intended to challenge stereotypes about the way that Jesus was conceived and get people talking about the Christmas story.
"We actually think God is about the power of love as shown in Jesus, which is something quite different than a literal man up in the sky," says Archdeacon Glynn Cardy.
The billboard has led Anglicans to fall out with other religions. It has, however, also received praise as well as the criticism.

Cardy says the church had received emails and phone calls since it made the public aware of the billboard on Tuesday.
"About 50% said they loved it, and about 50% said it was terribly offensive," he told NZPA.
"But that's out of about 20 responses - this is New Zealand."
The billboard, which has already sparked a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority, has also raised the wrath of the traditional values pressure group Family First.
"The church can have its debate on the Virgin birth and its spiritual significance inside the church building, but to confront children and families with the concept as a street billboard is completely irresponsible and unnecessary," Family First national director Bob McCoskrie says.
"The church has failed to recognise that public billboards are exposed to all of the public, including children and families who may be offended by the material."
Catholic Church spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer says the image is inappropriate and disrespectful.
"It's flying in the face of our 2,000-year-old beliefs," he says.
The archdeacon says the plan behind the billboard was to lampoon the literal interpretation of the Christmas conception story.
"What we're trying to do is to get people to think more about what Christmas is all about," he told NZPA.
"Is it about a spiritual male God sending down sperm so a child would be born, or is it about the power of love in our midst as seen in Jesus?"
He says St Matthew-in-the-City is at the progressive end of the Christian continuum, and that he believes God is "more like a force but not a being in any sense".
The church is seeking a replacement billboard.

un-traditional new years ideas, if you're rich...

from Alonso Dominguez Sanchez Teruel on ASW

1. Kiribati
Beat Everyone to the New Year
Following a rather convenient International Date Line eastbound move in 1995, the Republic of Kiribati's Caroline Island became the first piece of land on Earth to witness the new sunrise every day. After a fitting tourist attraction build-up for the Millenium change in 1999/2000, Kiribati has become an attractive destination in the South Pacific for those in search of untouched crystalline beaches (60% of the archipelago is actually uninhabited) and a real cultural experience.

2. Transylvania
Booze Up with Dracula
Okay, so Robert Pattinson is booked. Fear not! The "original" vampire has other plans this New Year's Eve. Indeed, for the first time ever, Dracula's reputed abode, Bran Castle in Transylvania, Romania, will be open for an exclusive New Year's Eve celebration.
A mere 500 euros gets you in for a private NYE tour, some much needed nourishment (their A negative is supposed to be the best), and the NYE champagne toast de rigeur. Roam around the world's most infamous castle and sink your canines into the victim of your choice at the stroke of midnight. Fangtastic.

3. Tierra del Fuego
The End of the Year at the End of the World
Standing at the world's most southern point (not counting Antartica), Tierra del Fuego is an interesting option for NYE. Practically uninhabitable during winter, the ideal time to visit this region of the world is in January, at the height of the southern hemisphere's summer.
Not for the indoors-oriented traveller, though, the activities in Tierra del Fuego are as varied as one can imagine. Icebreaking cruises, whale watching, hiking, and trekking are amongst the numerous experiences to be had. You'll certainly be able to fit in a couple of them per day, given that summer days last for no less than 17 hours. Yes, 17 hours of sunlight.

4. Berlin
Skip the First Three Days
Can't handle the pressures of the new year? Fastforward (well, sort of) to January 4th. Berlin's staple club Berghain prides itself in keeping the hardcore partiers off the streets…by holding them safely behind its walls. Armed with the best sound system in the world (they have an award to prove it), the power plant-turned-mega club will keep the party going for three days straight (1 - 4 January 2010), with a non-stop, no holds barred line-up ready to entertain for 72 consecutive hours. Don't think you can handle the whole thing? You're always welcome to drop by on Sunday the 3rd at around 10 am for a live techno fix.

5. Hong Kong
Fireworks, Civilized
Ok, we said no big, big cities—but wait! Although Hong Kong's may seem as watered-down, overpriced and crowded a celebration as any of the other metropolises, the British-turned-Chinese island's fireworks—dubbed the best in the world—when done right, are one of the best NYE experiences out there.
As always, the secret is location. The best thing to do in this case, if you're so inclined to watch fireworks—and believe us, it's a truly magnificent sight—is to reserve a table at the Phillip Starck-designed Felix. The restaurant, which sits atop the Peninsula Hotel, has floor-to-ceiling windows facing directly on the harbour, providing a prime spot to watch the show. Order some Caviar & Bubbles, sit back and count back to midnight.

6. Johannesburg, South Africa
Out with the Old
Fly down to Johannesburg to witness one of the best (in our opinion) NYE traditions on earth. On the December 31st, entire neighbourhoods of the South African metropolis come out on their balconies and open windows to rid themselves old electronic equipment and household appliances (read: they throw everything out on the streets). The tradition—dubbed one of the most dangerous in the world—has been continously shut down by the oh so competent authorities…without any success. Get a good spot—somewhere high—and watch closely as last year's electronics become physical countdowns into the New Year. Umbrellas optional.

7. Reykjavik
Hunting Aurora Borealis
In 2002, Áramótaskaup (the New Year's comedy, or New Year's Eve ridicule), an annual TV show, broke the record of the highest percentage of watchers within a western nation's population—95.5%. But not all of celand's winter miracles are TV-related.
Aside from the outstanding nightlife and gastronomic experiences this European capital has to offer, the real treat of Icelandic winters is watching the aurora borealis, or northern lights. Viewable only from a few countries around the world, this natural phenomenon is best experienced in open spaces with low artificial light, making it practically impossible to see when near a densely populated area.

Reyjavik, with a population of only 117,000, provides for a particular scenario in which going even only a few miles outside the city can prove very effective when searching for the aurora borealis. As always, location is key. Watch the astronomy reports during NYE, rent a car or car service and take off to hunt the lights. We promise, you won't regret it.

dwarves found "theme park" commune to escape bullying

A community of dwarves has set up its own village to escape discrimination from normal sized people.

Everyone in the mountain commune in Kunming, southern China, must be under 4ft 3 ins tall and they run their own police force and fire brigade from their 120 residents.
Now the group has turned itself into a tourist attraction by building mushroom houses and living and dressing like fairy tale characters.

"As small people we are used to being pushed around and exploited by big people. But here there aren't any big people and everything we do is for us," said spokesman Fu Tien.
The idea of housing dwarves in special compounds would be anathema in the West, and the village has sparked fierce debates among expats living in China.
"When I first heard this I pictured myself obscure freak shows from a hundred years back," wrote one commenter on the GoKunming website. "Pay the entrance fee and you can watch these people perform."
But others said that it was the dwarves' best chance of employment given the surplus of labour in China.
"We might feel aghast at treating humans this way but this is the best way the Chinese government can deal with the situation right now," wrote Tonyaod.
"Go back a hundred years or so in our culture and we will see that we did the same thing à la the freakshows and the circus."

unbelievable and unjust

New Oklahoma law will publicy post details of women’s abortions online.

On Nov. 1, a law in Oklahoma will go into effect that will collect personal details about every single abortion performed in the state and post them on a public website. Implementing the measure will “cost $281,285 the first year and $256,285 each subsequent year.” Here are the first eight questions that women will have to reveal:
1. Date of abortion
2. County in which abortion performed
3. Age of mother
4. Marital status of mother
(married, divorced, separated, widowed, or never married)
5. Race of mother
6. Years of education of mother
(specify highest year completed)
7. State or foreign country of residence of mother
8. Total number of previous pregnancies of the mother
Live Births
Miscarriages
Induced Abortions

Although the questionnaire does not ask for name, address, or “any information specifically identifying the patient,” as Feminists for Choice points out, these eight questions could easily be used to identify a woman in a small community. “They’re really just trying to frighten women out of having abortions,” Keri Parks, director of external affairs at Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, said. The Center for Reproductive Rights is challenging the law, arguing that “it violates the Oklahoma Constitution because it ‘covers more than one subject’ — a challenge that previously worked to strike down an abortion ultrasound law.”

here are some comments posted in response to this too:
>>"This is an outrage! ALL medical records are to be kept private! What’s next? Publishing who is on Birth Control? I don’t see anyone demanding that MEN have to release information if they get Viagra."
>>"New Oklahoma law will publicy post details of women’s abortions online.
– - In which public square will they have the bonfire burning of these women?"
>>"I can’t get over this. Why are people so dumb to allow this to happen? I thought the Righties were so concerned about the ‘Government’ taking over everything, and yet, they allow this? Peeking into private medical records? Pulbishing personal information?"
>>"Before this law goes could someone post all of personal details of the “lawmakers” who voted for this? Phone numbers, addresses and e-mail addresses should be included so they can be contacted about the absurdity of this."
>>"Fundies are worried about abortions but could care less about healthcare and education. "
>>"Does Oklahoma really have $256,285 to $281,285 a year to spend on this? Wouldn’t that money be more useful… say… hiring teachers, paying for police equipment, or paying for flu shots for underprivileged kids? Aren’t we in the middle of an economic crisis? Oh right, we’re 'in recovery.'"
>>"What this country is desperately in need of is a constitutional amendment protecting the right to privacy. So-called conservatives make a big deal about government staying out of peoples lives. Conservative and hypocrite now have the same definition."
>>"Wouldn’t this violate HIPAA laws? Also, by forcing only women to reveal personal private information (and not men), doesn’t this also violate the 14th Amendment?"
>>"I say, fine as long as they produce information about the person who fathered the embryo. like how many other women he’s knocked up, his race, age, and county he did the deed in.
If they’re trying to prevent unplanned pregnancies, they should also threaten the father, and in small communities, it’ll be easier to figure out his identity as well."
